A new layer of snow is on the ground here in Wisconsin, a good day to stay home in my sewing room and play with my current new project. I love starting new projects, cutting into the fabric and dreaming of what it will become. I have a fascination with quilts that have dimensional elements in them, and the book One Block Wonders Cubed! by Maxine Rosenthal and Joy Pelzmann is just what I needed to show me techniques to achieve dimension in my quilt. I am so excited to begin playing with making my fabric structures on my design wall. I think about it while I am at work during the day, and dream about it at night, am I obsessed? I imagine so. Fabric and quilting have been an obsession of mine for the past 24 years. It all started innocently enough. I had a houseful of children and was a stay at home mom. Nothing I did ever stayed done, meals were prepared, then a mess was left to clean up, laundry was done, at least till that evening when there were more loads to do, the house would be clean….for about 10 seconds until the kids got out something else. I needed a creative outlet and something that stayed done. Something that I could look at and say “look what I accomplished!”. My mother encouraged me to begin quilting. For my birthday she set me up with all I needed to begin quilting and I found my passion. Today, as I sit in my sewing room and create, I am so grateful for the road that led me to where I am now. Pictured is a small glimpse of where I am currently in this new quilt that I have been daydreaming about. By the time I post here next, I hope to have a picture structures growing on my design wall.
