Kalona, Iowa

Standard

This weekend we found ourselves having to hit the road to be with family. Our first night was spent in Kalona, Iowa which is the quilt capitol of Iowa. We had a short window of time before we needed to hit the road and thought it would be nice to sightsee a bit. Kalona’s downtown has a number of quaint shops. Quilt squares are certainly a focus! I think there are roughly 100 quilt squares in the side walk, as well as flags on the posts featuring quilt squares.

Fabric was to be found at a couple of shops…and some was!

There is also a Quilt and Textile Museum as well as a historical village on the same site. We did not have the time to participate, but there is always next time!

In the surrounding area there are numerous barn quilts to be found. We didn’t, but plan to on another trip.

Can’t wait to explore again!
